I’m the head guide for the fly shop in McCall. We guide fly fishing trips out of boats on sections of the Salmon and Payette Rivers, teach intro and fly casting classes, and take full-day adventures to remote stretches of the Salmon River to chase cutthroat. We fish both out of boats and hike in to mountain lakes.

Some of the places we fish include:

  • Sections of the Salmon River, floating, wading, and running rafts near Riggins for smallmouth and/or steelhead, depending on the season

  • Parts of the Payette River, fishing from a boat on select stretches

  • Little Payette Lake, chasing trophy smallmouth and tiger muskie

  • Alpine and mountain lakes, hike-in water that’s clear, cold, and doesn’t see much pressure

I’d personally take you fishing, or you could go with one of our other highly qualified guides who know the area better than anyone. McCall isn’t known as a fly fishing destination, but there are some incredible places to fish and sights to be seen if you’re willing to spend the time to get out there. A lot of our alpine lakes are special, and they don’t get fished very hard.

I’ll have my captain’s license in 2026, and I’ve spent the last several years getting dialed in on redfish and snook fly fishing with the help of my mentors, Captains Paul and Tom. Winter 2026 marks the start of something big. I’m usually the last trailer in the parking lot, because poling a skiff is what I love to do, and because I like to stay on the water as long as the light and the tide allow. More time fishing, less time watching the clock.

If you’ve never tried saltwater fly fishing, or you’re looking to try something new, I’d love to be your next favorite guide. I cut my teeth guiding mostly beginner fly fishers, so don’t feel like you need to be an expert. I’m a patient casting instructor and coach, and I genuinely enjoy helping people learn.
